The VEREINIGTE BÜHNEN WIEN with the affiliated company VBW International GmbH are the only music production company in German-speaking countries that successfully exports in-house productions across the world. This is just one of the reasons why Vienna has become established over the years as the leading musical metropolis alongside genre pioneers such as London and New York. The attendance figures for the long-running VBW productions are more than just the result of goodwill from a loyal audience – they are a fundamental criterion for selling successful Viennese productions abroad. For example, since 1996 a total of 9 productions have been marketed in 14 countries and the international attraction of the excellent material and coherent staging extends from Japan to Broadway. It is a radius that is just as much proof of the economic importance of professional musical exports as of the 14 million visitors who have enjoyed international VBW productions to date.
